The method of education adopted by St. Andrew’s Montessori is based on utilising a child’s natural desire to learn using their five senses. The Montessori Method enhances self-motivation and promotes the unique ability of children to develop their own interests and talents.
St. Andrew’s Montessori is based in the beautiful church of St. Andrew’s, Islington, which was built by the renowned Islington stonemasons firm of Dove Brothers in 1854. The Montessori philosophy embraces the natural environment and aims to keep teaching materials as organic as possible.
St. Andrew’s Montessori Nursery School was established in 1988 and is situated in the church of St.Andrew’s, London. The school is home to 58 children between the ages of 2 – 6 years old. Children from all religious and ethnic backgrounds are welcome at St. Andrew’s Montessori.
The Montessori approach requires a different set of skills from ‘mainstream’ education and qualifying as a Montessori teacher means going through a rigorous training programme that emphasises the teacher’s role as observer and learning director. The teachers are pleasant, polite and firm.
